If you live along the Massachusetts side of the Rhode Island line, the shape of autumn here isn't a slow fade. It's two calendars stacked on top of each other. One runs on hay bales and blue ribbons. The other runs on the small block V8s at 1782 Fall River Avenue. From late August through the last Saturday in October, almost every good weekend in Rehoboth and Seekonk is a choice between those two rhythms, and often a way of splitting the difference between them.
The thesis worth holding onto is simple. This is not a shoulder season. It's the busiest stretch of the year in both towns, and knowing where the crowds go on which weekend is what separates a resident's plan from a visitor's.
The Two Calendars That Run This Season
The agricultural side belongs to Rehoboth. The Rehoboth Fair takes place Sep 11–13, 2026 in Rehoboth, Massachusetts, and its texture is exactly what its name suggests: farm animals, tractor pulls, craft and bake-off competitions, live country music, and classic fair food in rural southeastern Massachusetts. Around it sits a lighter program that most residents already know about but few plan against. The Rehoboth Parks Commission runs concerts at the town gazebo every Sunday from five to eight, and the tractor and truck culture spills onto Redway Plain in September, with a Tractor & Truck Show at Redway Plain, Rehoboth, MA put on with the Rehoboth Historical Commission.
The motorsports side belongs to Seekonk, and it is louder than most non-fans realize. Seekonk Speedway officials announced today the track event schedule for the 81st season of short-track racing in 2026. The schedule is highlighted by the return of 18 NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series Saturday races and 15 Fast Friday events. Additionally, there will be five major Thrill Shows. The two calendars collide, on purpose or by accident, on the same September weekends: Friday & Saturday, August 28-29, will open the playoffs. After a week off for the Labor Day Thrill Show, the final three weekends of playoff action will be Sept. 11-12, 18-19 and 25-26.
Which means the Rehoboth Fair's Saturday night and the Speedway's opening playoff Saturday are the same evening.

The final points weekend at the Speedway is worth flagging for anyone who's only ever gone in July. Champions will be crowned during the D.A.V. Venditti Fall Classic championship weekend, scheduled for September 25-26. Rain dates for championship weekend are set for October 2-3. The stakes are real, the grandstands are full, and Fall River Avenue backs up in a way it doesn't during a routine Saturday night card.
October then has its own two-part closer. Additional shows include the Mid Summer Thrill Show on August 1, the Labor Day Thrill Show on September 5, and the Pumpkin Smash Thrill Show on October 10. Two weeks later, the annual USNEPower Haunted Hundred on Saturday, October 24 lands the season, and if the fall has been dry, that's the last big traffic night on Route 6 until the holidays.
A Farm Stand Circuit That Peaks After Labor Day
Rehoboth's farm inventory does not look like a corporate orchard operation, and that is the point. It runs on a handful of small, named growers with real hours you can plan a Saturday morning around.

The mistake most residents make is timing the farm stand loop for late September, when the fair crowd has already thinned the shelves by Sunday. The reliable week is the one after fair weekend, September 14 through 20, when growers have restocked and the tourist-adjacent traffic has moved on to the Speedway.
The Quieter Half Of The Weekend
Late-summer wildlife on this side of the line is genuinely good, and Caratunk Wildlife Refuge is where you go to see it. The August 28 walk is the same evening the Speedway playoffs open, which is either a scheduling conflict or a very good excuse depending on which household you're in.
Rehoboth's conservation inventory is deeper than most residents use. Rehoboth State Forest off Peck Street has hiking trails. The Ephraim Hunt Ministerial Land Conservation Area, 55 Pond Street · The Mason Street Conservation Area (open to the public) is located off Mason Street. Shad Factory Conservation Area on Reed Street has hiking trails. Shad Factory is the one worth putting on the fall short list. It reads best in early October when the water is low and the deciduous canopy over the trail is at peak color.
For a specifically Rehoboth walk with more history than trail, Anawan Rock is the stop. The war ended in southeastern Massachusetts with an event near Rehoboth. On August 28, 1676, Captain Benjamin Church captured Anawan. Anawan was a leader of the Wampanoag tribe. He became chief after King Philip died. Anawan Rock, a large stone, marks the spot where Anawan was captured. This event effectively ended the war in the area. The anniversary of the capture is, by coincidence, the same August 28 that opens the racing playoffs. Three overlapping calendars on one Friday, if you're counting.
The Hornbine School is the other historical anchor for a resident's guest-hosting weekend. Another important place for education is the historic Hornbine School. It was built in 1845. This old schoolhouse is open to visitors from May to September. If you have out-of-town family coming for fair weekend, this is the twenty-minute stop that makes the day feel local rather than generic.
A Working Weekend Plan
If you want a shape to hang the season on, here is one that respects both calendars and the traffic they generate:
- Friday afternoon: Homestead Farm Market run before 6 p.m. for Saturday's cooking.
- Saturday morning: Moonrose Farm CSA pickup, then Shad Factory or Rehoboth State Forest before the day warms up.
- Saturday afternoon: The Last Stand for flowers and a workshop if the calendar aligns.
- Saturday evening: Fair on Sep 12, Speedway on the other three playoff Saturdays. Do not attempt both on the same Saturday unless someone else is driving.
- Sunday, 5 to 8 p.m.: Gazebo concert if the Parks Commission is running one, otherwise the porch.
The one weekend to break this pattern is October 10, when the Pumpkin Smash Thrill Show turns the Speedway parking lot into the busiest stretch of Route 6 all fall. If you're not going, plan the farm stand loop for Sunday, not Saturday.
One Note On The Roads
Rehoboth is a town without a train. Rehoboth is one of the few towns in Massachusetts where mainline railroads were never constructed. Historically, only a single streetcar line ran through the town; the Providence and Taunton Street Railway began interurban trolley service in 1891 along what is now U.S. Route 44. Route 44 is still the artery. On fair weekend it is the fair route. On the last three Saturdays of September it is the Speedway route in one direction and the Providence dinner route in the other. Residents who commute west toward Providence learn to leave earlier, and residents on the Attleboro side learn that the Route 152 detour exists for a reason.
None of this is a hardship. It's what late summer and fall look like in two towns that quietly host one of the busiest event schedules on the Massachusetts-Rhode Island border.
